Austria, Albania, and Chile Confirm Participation in the Global Peace Summit
Three more countries — Austria, Albania, and Chile — have confirmed their participation in the Global Peace Summit, scheduled for mid-June in Switzerland. This announcement follows phone conversations between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Austrian Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, and Chilean President Gabriel Boric, as reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
"The leaders confirmed that their countries would participate in the Global Peace Summit," the statement said.
The President of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to the heads of these states for supporting the Summit and provided updates on the situation at the front. Specifically, Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the defence of Kharkiv region and the protection of people in frontline towns and villages.
During his conversation with Karl Nehammer, the President of Ukraine highlighted the importance of Austria's contribution to humanitarian demining in Ukrainian territories and expressed hope for strengthened cooperation. In talks with Edi Rama, special attention was given to the preparation for the Global Peace Summit and further defence cooperation between Ukraine and Albania. In dialogue with Gabriel Boric, the Ukrainian leader thanked Chile for its readiness to join the international mission for demining territories and returning Ukrainian children illegally deported by Russia.
It is worth noting that over 50 delegations from countries across various continents, as well as international organizations, have already confirmed their participation in the Global Peace Summit. Notable attendees include European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and French President Emmanuel Macron. The Ecumenical Patriarchate will also be represented, along with at least two African countries — Malawi and Cape Verde.
The Gaze previously reported that, according to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine is ready for dialogue with all states supporting its territorial integrity. The President expects participants at the Global Peace Summit to jointly develop a three-point action plan.
"If we emerge from the Summit with these three steps, and a majority of countries agree on these positions, it will mean that Russia cannot block them further, and we will develop a step-by-step, very detailed plan for each of these points with certain countries at a technical level," the President of Ukraine stated.
The President and his team are actively working to involve representatives from the Global South in the Summit. For China, nuclear safety is of utmost importance; for Africa and Asia, food security is a priority; and for the Arab world, the exchange of prisoners is crucial.
