Bananas for Millions: Tens of Kilograms of Cocaine in Banana Boxes Found in German Supermarkets

Supermarket workers in several supermarkets in Berlin and Brandenburg, Germany, discovered a large amount of cocaine hidden in banana boxes the day before. This may be a find worth millions of dollars, Bild writes.
We are talking about Lidl discount supermarkets. The drugs were found on Thursday morning by store employees while unpacking and sorting goods.
Following the discovery, the police conducted a large-scale police operation, during which they took a store in Schönefeld near Berlin and a store in Marienfeld under guard.
According to law enforcement officials, these are four supermarkets in Brandenburg and seven in Berlin. Between 20 and 100 kilograms of drugs were found in each supermarket.
As the police are still examining the goods, the total amount of cocaine has not yet been determined. Berlin police spokeswoman Beate Kardels confirmed that the drugs were hidden in boxes under the fruit.
According to Bild, 100 kilograms of cocaine is currently worth about 4 million euros.
Earlier, the German parliament approved the legalisation of personal use of cannabis, and other types of drugs are banned in the country.
