Biden Administration to Expedite Delivery of Approved Defence Aid to Ukraine Worth Over $6 Billion
The White House is planning to speed up the delivery of the remaining batches of previously approved defence aid to Ukraine, Politico reports, citing two White House officials.
‘The Biden administration plans to accelerate the delivery of more than $6 billion in residual security assistance to Ukraine before Inauguration Day,’ the report said.
This plan, according to the sources, is currently the only option available to the White House to continue military assistance to Ukraine. However, significant problems are pointed out in this regard.
‘Usually, after the announcement of an aid package, ammunition and equipment arrive in Ukraine within a few months, so anything that will be sent in the coming weeks will likely not arrive in full,’ the publication explains.
Meanwhile, the US Department of Defence said it would continue to deliver the approved aid to support Ukraine. ‘We expect further assistance to be released in the coming weeks,’ the newspaper quoted Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Charlie Dietz as saying.
In April, the US approved a package of aid to Ukraine totalling about $61bn. Currently, $4.3 billion remains unused to send ready-made weapons from Pentagon warehouses, as well as $2.1 billion to finance contracts for the production of weapons for Ukraine by US defence companies.
