41-year-old Briton Ben Trotman, diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, has recovered thanks to experimental treatment. The deadly disease — glioblastoma — was diagnosed in October 2022. This type of cancer progresses rapidly, leading doctors to give him about 9 months to live, reports The Times.

Usually, glioblastoma is treated with radiation and chemotherapy, followed by surgery to remove the tumour. According to Dr. Paul Mulholland, a leading expert in brain cancer at University College Hospital London, this treatment scheme has been used since the early 2000s, but the final outcome has often been discouraging.

Sometimes patients went into remission, but ultimately the disease usually returned and quickly killed the patient. In some cases, the tumour could double in size within just seven weeks after treatment.

Dr. Mulholland proposed trying immunotherapy before proceeding with approved procedures. This method stimulates the body's immune system and helps fight cancer cells.

Only Ben Trotman agreed to such an experiment. As a result of the new treatment scheme, no tumour was found in his brain. The doctor believes that the patient's immune system independently overcame cancer.

Although Trotman started standard treatment in January of last year and continues chemotherapy now, scientists are confident that the results of this experiment will help develop more effective methods of fighting not only glioblastoma but also other aggressive forms of cancer.

It is worth noting that glioblastoma is a very dangerous type of cancer, with only a 5% survival rate over five years after treatment.

The Gaze previously reported that a recent study published in BMC Medicine shed light on the impact of prolonged caffeine consumption on the body. The study results suggest that controlled regular caffeine consumption may prevent weight gain and reduce the risk of inflammation and joint degeneration.

Scientists note that they have discovered protective properties of caffeine against both weight gain and the development of osteoarthritis. Researchers have indicated that this occurs through several mechanisms triggered by caffeine in the body.
