The Bulgarian government has decided to align with the declaration of G7 nations, pledging enduring security commitments to Ukraine during a meeting on August 16th.

This development has been reported by BTA.

"Bulgaria provides both political and practical support to Ukraine. By directly countering Russian aggression, Bulgaria contributes to safeguarding freedom, security, and sovereignty for all European member states. In line with this consistent policy, Bulgaria is joining the Joint Declaration of G7 countries in support of Ukraine," stated the Council of Ministers of Bulgaria.

In total, 15 countries have already adhered to the G7 declaration. Among them are North Macedonia, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Norway, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Finland, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia.

Recall that during the NATO summit held in Vilnius in July of this year, G7 issued a joint statement, pledging support to Kyiv in defense against Russian armed aggression.

"We, the leaders of the Group of Seven, reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the strategic goal of creating a free, independent, democratic, and sovereign Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, capable of defending itself and deterring future aggression. We confirm that Ukraine's security is an integral part of the security of the Euro-Atlantic region," the declaration states.

Furthermore, the declaration outlines plans to develop specific bilateral, long-term security commitments and agreements aimed at ensuring "resilient armed forces capable of defending Ukraine immediately," as well as deterring future Russian aggression. It also emphasizes the reinforcement of economic stability and the provision of technical and financial support.

It is also known that Ukraine is in negotiations with the United States, the United Kingdom, and Greece regarding bilateral security assurances.

In the event of a future armed attack by Russia, the G7 countries commit to immediately consult with Ukraine to determine appropriate subsequent steps.

Within the declaration, Ukraine has also outlined its commitments, particularly those related to reform.

Earlier, The Gaze reported that as far back as November 2022, the Bulgarian parliament endorsed a resolution to provide military-technical assistance to Ukraine. Unofficially, the former pro-European government of Kiril Petkov purportedly sent over a billion dollars worth of ammunition and weaponry to Kyiv.

Later, there were reports that Bulgaria would regain control over a crucial port previously under Russian influence.
