Coronation of Charles III Cost Taxpayers £72 million
The coronation of King Charles III cost taxpayers in the UK £72 million (about $91 million), which is less than half the cost of the late Queen's funeral. This was reported by The Telegraph.
On 21 November, the UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) published its annual report, which disclosed the cost of the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla on 6 May 2023 in London.
Although Charles immediately acceded to the throne after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth in September 2022, he continued a nearly thousand-year tradition when he was crowned at Westminster Abbey.
Of the money spent, $63.37 million was funded by His Majesty's Treasury and $27.33 million by the Home Office for security.
The cost of the coronation was compared to the cost of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022. The bill for the late Queen's state funeral was reportedly 162 million pounds (about $204 million).
According to The Telegraph, this amount included a farewell ceremony and other events across the UK throughout the period of national mourning.
