On Wednesday, June 28, the Croatian Parliament approved a declaration recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. This was reported on the website of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Croatia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Croatia for this decision on Twitter.

"The Parliament of the Republic of Croatia has adopted a declaration recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. Grateful to Croatia for this historic vote. The world will never accept the crimes of the Kremlin - neither past nor present," wrote the President of Ukraine.

"To carry the grain of truth about the Holodomor, in order to prevent the world from forgetting this diabolical act, consciously recognizing it as a genocide of Ukrainians and preventing its repetition anywhere and anytime. The Croatian Parliament took a step to prevent the recurrence of the famine plague by condemning the Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-33 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. Thank you, Croatia!" wrote the Ambassador of Ukraine to Croatia, Vasyl Kyrylych.

Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba noted that this is a historic decision and also thanked the Croatian Parliament. The minister also listed the number of countries that have already recognized the Holodomor as a genocide.

"As of November 2022, 15 countries have recognized the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. Since then, another 12 states have joined. I thank them for hearing our requests and invite others to join. Recognition honors the victims and warns future generations to prevent genocide," Dmytro Kuleba said.

After the full-scale invasion of Russia began in February 2022, the consideration of the issue of recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people has intensified in several countries. Declarations recognizing it have been adopted by the Parliaments of the United Kingdom, Slovenia, Belgium, Ireland, Romania, Moldova, the Czech Republic, Germany, Iceland, France, Bulgaria, and Luxembourg.

On December 15, 2022, the European Parliament recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. At that time, the resolution was supported by 507 deputies. The document condemned the actions of the Soviet regime, which "led to the deaths of millions of Ukrainians," and called on governments and organizations that have not yet recognized the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people to do so.
