Croatia: Second Government Minister Resigns – Deputy PM Dabro Steps Down Over Shooting Video
Croatia's deputy prime minister has resigned over a video of himself shooting from a car. He became the second minister to leave Andrej Plenković's cabinet in the last two months. In the video, Josip Dabro can be seen in the passenger seat chatting, laughing and singing along to loud music, before picking up a gun and firing through an open window into the darkness.
Dabro, who represents the right-wing nationalist Batkivshchyna Movement party, said the video was from several years ago and that he was firing training bullets. This is the latest incident to alarm the Croatian coalition formed in May 2024, when the government called Dabro's behaviour ‘inappropriate and irresponsible’.
In November, Croatia's Prime Minister dismissed former Health Minister Vili Beros after he was detained in a bribery investigation.
Last week, the HDZ was defeated in the second round of the Croatian presidential election, with President Zoran Milanovic of the centre-left opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) winning another term with about 74% of the vote.
