Denmark Assumes EU Council Presidency

On 1 July, Denmark began its presidency of the Council of the European Union, which will last until 31 December 2025. This right was transferred to the country from Poland.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to the website of the Danish Presidency of the EU.
‘Under the slogan “A Strong Europe in a Changing World”, the Danish Presidency will work for a secure Europe, as well as a competitive and green Europe,’ the description of the country's presidency programme says.
It is noted that the EU is facing a new international order characterised by uncertainty, global strategic and economic competition, and increasing levels of conflict.
‘That is why the EU must be able to act independently. The strength of the EU lies, among other things, in European unity, a strong economic foundation, stable democracies and socially balanced societies,’ the Danish Presidency of the EU said.
It emphasised that this strength must be developed and used to promote and protect European interests and the international legal order.
‘The Danish Presidency of the EU will work for a strong and decisive European Union that takes responsibility for its own security and strengthens its competitiveness,’ the statement said.
It is noted that this requires the bloc to back up its words with actions and respond to the challenges it faces.
The Danish Presidency of the EU added that the ‘green’ transition is important for building a safer and more competitive Europe.
Danish Minister for European Affairs Marie Bjerre said that in today's changing geopolitical landscape, Europe must become much stronger economically, politically and militarily.
‘That is why we have developed an ambitious presidency programme aimed at strengthening the EU's defence and security, providing support to Ukraine and combating illegal migration,’ Bjerre emphasised.
She also said that Copenhagen would work to improve conditions for European businesses by reducing the regulatory burden, while remaining committed to the green transition. This approach will strengthen Europe's long-term competitiveness, the minister added.
On 1 January, Poland took over the rotating presidency of the EU Council from Hungary, with strengthening Europe's security in all dimensions as its key priority.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Denmark will provide €130 million in guarantees for its companies that are ready to invest in Ukraine's defence industry.
