Empire State Building Lights Up in Blue and Yellow for Ukraine’s Independence Day

New York joined global landmarks in honoring Ukraine’s 34th Independence Day, as the iconic Empire State Building was illuminated in the colors of the Ukrainian flag on August 24.
The Gaze reports this, referring to Ukrainian media Novyny.LIVE.
The Empire State Building, a 381-meter Art Deco skyscraper completed in 1931 and long considered one of the world’s most recognizable buildings, was transformed into a beacon of support for Ukraine.
The celebrations were accompanied by official greetings from U.S. leaders. President Donald Trump extended congratulations on behalf of the American people, calling Ukraine’s struggle for independence and freedom an inspiration to the world.
He reiterated Washington’s support for a negotiated settlement that brings a durable peace while safeguarding Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed the message, emphasizing the United States’ commitment to Ukraine’s long-term security and prosperity.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the U.S. for its solidarity. “We appreciate your kind words for the Ukrainian people, and we thank the United States for standing shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine in defending what is most valuable: independence, freedom, and guaranteed peace. We believe that by working together, we can put an end to this war and achieve real peace for Ukraine,” he wrote on X.
Landmarks across the globe lit up in the colors of Ukraine’s flag to mark the country’s Independence Day. The Eiffel Tower in Paris, Ankara’s symbolic tower, Canada’s Parliament, New York’s Empire State Building, the headquarters of European institutions in Brussels, Prague’s concert hall, Delhi’s obelisk, and the presidential palace in Helsinki all shone blue and yellow in tribute.
