EU Commits €50 Million to Rebuild Ukraine’s War-Damaged Hospitals
The European Union will provide €50 million to help reconstruct Ukrainian hospitals damaged by Russian attacks or struggling under high patient loads caused by the war.
The Gaze reports this, referring to a statement made by the Ukrainian Ministry of Health.
The funding was approved during the fifth meeting of the Steering Committee of the Ukraine Investment Framework (UIF) and will support the joint World Bank–Ministry of Health project “HEAL Ukraine: Strengthening the Health System and Saving Lives.”
According to the ministry, the new tranche will finance preparatory and construction stages of reconstruction projects, including feasibility studies, environmental and social assessments, design and tender documentation, construction and installation works, technical supervision, and the procurement of modern medical and laboratory equipment.
Hospitals eligible for reconstruction will be those that suffered severe damage from hostilities or serve internally displaced persons and operate under significant strain. The final list of facilities will be determined once financing is confirmed.
During the UIF session, participants also discussed potential Czech contributions through the National Development Bank (NRB) as part of the “Renovation and Modernization of Hospitals” program. These additional funds are expected to finance infrastructure upgrades, equipment supplies, and, where necessary, repairs.
The scale of medical infrastructure damage remains severe. As of October 1, 2025, 2,489 facilities across 804 healthcare institutions in Ukraine have been reported damaged or destroyed.
Of these, 2,162 sustained partial damage, while 327 were completely destroyed. The most affected regions include Donetsk, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Chernihiv, and Mykolaiv.
Ukrainian officials have repeatedly emphasized that rebuilding the healthcare system is critical for maintaining access to basic medical care and sustaining public resilience amid ongoing attacks.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Ukraine has received a new €46.1 million loan tranche from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support urban renewal and infrastructure modernization across the country.
