EU Prepares 14th Package of Sanctions Against Russia
The European Union has begun work on the 14th package of sanctions against Russia over its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which is to be adopted this spring.
This was stated by Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis on 9 April during a speech at an event of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats group in the European Parliament.
Dombrovskis predicted that the 14th package of EU sanctions against Russia would be adopted in the spring.
"It is likely to contain a wide range of restrictive measures with a strong focus on tackling tax evasion - for example, in the maritime sector, as Russia continues to try to break the price ceiling on oil exports," he added.
The Vice President of the European Commission also noted that the agency is exploring ways to counter sanctions circumvention through subsidiaries of Western companies operating outside Europe.
"We will continue to put pressure on Russia and those who support it on the battlefield, wherever they are. We will continue to pursue Putin's friends. And we will continue to pursue those who help Russia to circumvent sanctions or replenish its military arsenal," Dombrovskis assured.
As a reminder, on 23 February, the EU Council adopted the thirteenth package of restrictive measures against Russia and those responsible for continuing the war against Ukraine, as well as those who substantially support Russia's military actions. The European Council decided to impose restrictive measures on 106 more individuals and 88 legal entities.
