A crowd of farmers gathered in the centre of Warsaw. They lit bonfires and torches on the Parade Square. They blocked roads and streets. The police intervened in the situation, PolsatNews reports.

The protesters carried flags and banners. Among the inscriptions was the slogan "Wall for the farmer". A tank-shaped installation made of hay bales also appeared at the head of the march.

Interia's correspondent Jakub Krzywiecki, who was at the scene, said that police intervened because the protesters had set fires and fired missiles.

Tram traffic on Erozolimska Alley is closed, as is the final stop at the Central Station. The street is impassable. Emilia Plater along the Palace of Culture and Science is also closed.

At the beginning of the march of protesting farmers in Warsaw, strange scenes took place. The front of the march changed its route without warning. A few minutes later, the demonstrators turned back.

According to journalists present at the scene, the police told the protesters to wait for a car with an audio system that was supposed to lead the procession and blocked the march. The farmers did not want to waste time and pressured the police to move on.

The municipality announced that a staff would be set up at the Metropolitan Security Centre, including the Municipal Transport Department, as well as the police and city guards, to constantly monitor the situation on the streets during the farmers' protest, and the police would ensure the safe running of the event. Law enforcement officers will also decide to block traffic on certain streets on a permanent basis.

Polish farmers are protesting against the European Commission's policy, which they accuse of introducing the Green Deal, a sharp restriction on the use of pesticides in agricultural products, and of restricting the possibility of breeding animals by European laws. This was compounded by protests against the EU's permits for imports of agricultural products from Ukraine to the EU. These actions, according to the protesters, are detrimental to their interests.
