The heads of parliamentary foreign affairs committees in a number of European countries and the European Parliament issued a joint statement saying that any agreements reached in Alaska on 15 August or later should not reward Russia with territory for its aggression.

The Gaze reports on it, referring to European Pravda.

The statement calls on the leaders of the free world to reach a ceasefire agreement ‘that is in the best interests of all people who value freedom throughout the democratic world.’

"Any agreement reached at the negotiations in Alaska on 15 August 2025 or after that date must clearly affirm Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity, constitution and the principles of the UN Charter. It is essential that Russia not be rewarded for its brutal and illegal war of aggression against Ukraine with territorial gains," the statement said.

The committee leaders note that only Ukrainians themselves can determine the future of Ukraine, adhering to the fundamental principle: ‘Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.’

‘European states must also participate in the negotiations to minimise the risks to European security posed by Russia's aggression against Ukraine,’ the parliamentary committee leaders stressed.

They added that Russia is likely to try to use the negotiations as an excuse to avoid an unconditional ceasefire and achieve a relaxation of sanctions.

In this regard, they called for unity, determination and fidelity to universal rights so that the outcome of any negotiations truly serves the cause of freedom.

The statement was signed by 27 heads of parliamentary foreign affairs committees, including those from Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Moldova, Britain, Finland, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Iceland, Norway, Austria, Belgium, Sweden, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Denmark. The head of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee also signed the statement.

As The Gaze reported earlier, European countries are seeking to engage in dialogue with Donald Trump ahead of the US president's planned meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska, The Gaze reports, citing Bloomberg.
