Four Design Projects From Ukraine Are Shortlisted For The Best of Year Awards 2023

Four design projects from Ukraine - Sivak+Partners, Yod Group, Balbek Bureau and ISTO - have been shortlisted for the prestigious Best of Year Awards 2023.

It is noted that each of the presented Ukrainian projects will compete in different categories. Overall, the awards recognize innovative developments in 129 categories.

Sivak+Partners studio, with its design for the gelateria cafe Tanu in the Ukrainian city of Odesa, will vie for victory in the 'Counter Service' category. It's worth noting that the establishment previously received the prestigious Restaurant & Bar Design Awards for the best interior design.

Balbek Bureau studio, with its concept of a private house called Relogged, has entered the list of finalists in the 'Small Country House' category. In their project, the studio reimagined an old wooden building, creating a new design adapted to a modern interior.

Another Ukrainian studio, ISTO, is among the finalists. The architect-designed project for the Monsella building recently became a finalist in another prestigious competition in the UK—the SBID International Design Awards in the CGI & Visualization category. This time, the project will compete in the 'Single-Family Residence' category.

The final finalist in Interior Design's Best of Year is the design project for one of the hotels in a Ukrainian mountain ski resort by the Yod Group. The project will compete in the 'Boutique Hotel' category. The main idea of the architects was to reproduce motifs of authentic Ukrainian nature and local traditions in the design of a modern hotel.

"Participation in leading international competitions is an opportunity for us to see our projects in a broader global context. Bold ambitions and competition with the best architects in the world inspire us for continuous development, encourage us to do everything possible, be more demanding of ourselves, and raise the bar," the Ukrainians wrote in response to appearing in the final list.

Interior Design's Best of Year is the main award in the design industry from the specialized magazine Interior Design. For 18 consecutive years, the awards have recognized the best projects, designers, and architects from all corners of the world.
