German News Agency WELT Reporter Hurt in Russian Drone Attack
A Russian drone attack on Ukrainian soldiers in the Dnipropetrovsk region resulted in injuries to WELT journalists and the death of one soldier.
The Gaze reports on it, referring to WELT.
While accompanying a mobile air defense unit of the Ukrainian army, WELT chief reporter Ibrahim Naaber and his team witnessed an attack by a Russian Lancet drone.
The drone crashed into a military truck belonging to the 42nd Brigade, which the journalists were accompanying. The incident occurred on October 13, approximately 25-30 km from the front line, just a few meters from the crew and the team of reporters.
The impact killed a 48-year-old Ukrainian soldier, while another suffered such serious injuries that his leg had to be amputated.
WELT producer Ivan Z. was injured by debris and required emergency surgery. The chief reporter and cameraman suffered minor injuries, even though they were clearly identified as journalists.
Cameraman Viktor Lysenko recorded the events on video. This incident highlights how the widespread use of drones is turning not only the front lines but also areas beyond them into high-risk zones for military personnel and journalists.
The Gaze previously reported that two journalists from Ukraine’s international broadcaster were killed in Kramatorsk on Wednesday after their vehicle was struck by a Russian Lancet loitering munition.
