German Union: Peacekeeping in Ukraine Demands Tens of Thousands of Troops

The Head of the German Soldiers' Union warned European NATO leaders against being naive in discussions about peacekeeping forces in Ukraine, emphasizing that their deployment would require tens of thousands of troops for an extended period of time.
The Gaze reports on this, referring to Reuters.
On Thursday, Colonel André Wüstner, Head of the German Armed Forces Association, emphasized that European leaders should realistically assess the scale of military tasks and openly discuss the deployment of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.
“It won't be enough to have a handful of generals and smaller military units man a command post in Ukraine,” Wüstner said.
The Colonel stressed that Putin must receive a clear signal from the outset that international forces are prepared to take security guarantees and ceasefire monitoring seriously. According to him, the West must demonstrate resolve and be prepared to respond if Russia attempts a new attack.
"Serious about supporting Ukraine, serious about securing a ceasefire, and serious about our response should Putin attempt another attack on Ukraine," he highlighted.
André Wüstner estimated that the United Kingdom, France, and Germany would have to deploy at least 10,000 troops in Ukraine if it were to be a long-term mission. Such a scale, in his opinion, would be a serious test for armies that are already experiencing a shortage of resources and are overburdened with new commitments to NATO.
Moreover, he emphasized that European states are still far from being able to guarantee their own security on their own.
“The Europeans remain military dwarfs and are already struggling to meet the new NATO commitments they made at the last summit,” Wuestner said, calling for a significant acceleration of the process of armament and strengthening of the European component within NATO.
As The Gaze informed earlier, US President Donald Trump said that as president, he would not authorise the deployment of American troops to Ukraine.
