Germany and the Netherlands Sound the Alarm: War Preparations Against Russia Urged
Germany's Minister of Defence, Boris Pistorius, has called on Europe to prepare for a possible conflict with Russia within the next 5–8 years. During this period, he emphasized the need to rebuild capabilities in the armed forces, the military-industrial complex, and society, as stated by the German official in his interview with Welt am Sonntag.
Pistorius specifically noted that Russia has increased weapon production by over 60%, and the Kremlin's threats to the Baltic countries, Georgia, and Moldova could materialize into concrete dangers by the end of the decade.
"I sometimes get the impression that not everyone has realized that we need to do more to ensure our security. Faced with a serious crisis, we need armed forces capable of defending our country, even in the event of war," stated Germany's Minister of Defence.
A similar sentiment was expressed by the Chief of the Army of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, General Martin Wijnen. He believes that residents of European countries closest to the potential aggressor are more morally prepared for a possible war. The military leader suggests that the Netherlands should follow their example in this regard.
"We must be seriously prepared for a possible armed conflict with Russia. The entire society must be ready in case something goes wrong. The Netherlands should not assume that our security is guaranteed just because we are 1500 kilometers away from the potential aggressor," said Martin Wijnen.
According to the general, the Netherlands should significantly strengthen its army, since Russia only understands the language of strength. He also noted that Dutch citizens should already have reserves of food and drinking water to survive in emergency situations.
It's worth noting that during the massive missile attack on Ukraine on December 29, one of the Russian missiles violated the airspace of Poland. This was confirmed by the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces.
"All indications are that a Russian missile entered the airspace of Poland. We have confirmation of this on national and allied radars," said Polish military officials.
Following this incident, Poland's Air Defence Forces were placed on heightened combat readiness, and Polish President Andrzej Duda convened a meeting of the National Security Bureau. Residents of the Dolhobychuv community in the Lublin Voivodeship also reported a flying object moving at tremendous speed.
