Germany Boosts Support for Ukraine’s Energy Sector to €450 Million
Germany will expand its contribution to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine to a total of €450 million, nearly one third of the fund’s overall value, German Economy and Energy minister Katherina Reiche announced during a joint briefing with Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk in Kyiv.
The Gaze reports this, referring to Ukrinform.
Reiche said Germany had already provided €390 million, with an additional €30 million approved over the summer. Berlin is now pledging a further €30 million, raising its total commitment to €450 million.
“This is a strong investment in Ukraine’s resilience and energy independence,” she said, noting that the funds will go toward technical equipment and infrastructure to strengthen Ukraine’s power network amid continued Russian attacks.
According to the minister, Germany has already supplied 32,000 units of energy-related equipment, helping restore or maintain electricity access for over one million Ukrainians.
She emphasized that representatives from Germany’s energy and defense industries are part of her delegation, reflecting growing interest from German companies in long-term cooperation with Ukraine’s energy sector.
German Economy and Energy minister Katherina Reiche arrived in Kyiv on Friday for an unannounced visit aimed at bolstering support for Ukraine’s war-damaged energy infrastructure and expanding bilateral cooperation in the defense sector.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko confirmed that a separate €60 million German contribution to the Energy Support Fund will finance the delivery of generators, energy equipment, and mobile thermal power plants ahead of the winter season.
The Energy Support Fund, launched to help Ukraine restore and secure its power system, has become one of the key international mechanisms for rebuilding the country’s critical infrastructure amid the ongoing war.
