Italy will deliver additional emergency power equipment to Ukraine after a new wave of Russian attacks severely damaged the country’s energy infrastructure.

The Gaze reports this, referring to a statement made by the Italian government.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni told this President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a phone call on Sunday.

According to the announcement, Meloni condemned Russia’s indiscriminate strikes on civilian targets and reaffirmed Italy’s solidarity with Ukraine.

She said that Italian companies are preparing shipments of generators that will arrive in Ukraine in the coming weeks to help stabilise the power grid and support the population during ongoing outages.

Meloni also reiterated Italy’s backing for the current diplomatic efforts, including U.S.-led initiatives aimed at securing a just and durable peace. She stressed that Ukraine’s repeated willingness to engage in negotiations remains central to moving the process forward, expressing hope that Russia would show similar readiness.

Zelenskyy, in a social media statement, thanked Meloni for the equipment Italy is sending and highlighted the importance of sustaining pressure on Russia to compel it toward ending the war. The two leaders also discussed their recent contacts with the United States and the diplomatic challenges still ahead.

Italy’s decision comes after Russia launched a massive missile-and-drone barrage on 6 December, striking electricity generation and transmission facilities across eight Ukrainian regions.

Russia has been regularly launching large-scale attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector, striking power plants, substations, and distribution networks in an effort to destabilize the country and pressure civilians amid ongoing hostilities.

The aid announcement precedes a high-level meeting in London on 8 December, where Zelensky, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron are expected to coordinate a unified European-Ukrainian position on future peace talks.

As The Gaze previously reported, Italy plans to extend its authorization to supply military equipment to Ukraine, supporting it in its confrontation with Russian aggression.
