Inside Out 2 Becomes Highest-Grossing Animated Film in the History of Cinema, Earning $1.46 Billion
Pixar's feature-length animated film Inside Out 2 has become the highest-grossing film in the history of cinema.
It is reported by Variety.
Earlier, the 2019 animated film Frozen 2 was the best, which grossed $1.45 billion at the global box office, but the second Inside Out managed to beat the previous record holder.
‘We are filled with joy! Thank you to every fan around the world for making Inside Out 2 the biggest animated film of all time,’ Pixar commented on the news on its Instagram.
The animated film about a teenage girl Riley and the emotions in her head managed to earn $1.46 billion in six weeks of release: $601 million in the US and $861 million at the international box office.
In addition, Inside Out 2 pushed Barbie (with a box office of $1.446 billion) down from the 13th place of the highest-grossing films of all time.
It also became the fastest animated film to cross the $1 billion mark. It did it in 19 days.
Moreover, Inside Out 2 is currently the highest-grossing film of 2024 and the only one to earn a billion dollars at the box office this year.
Inside Out 2 is a sequel to the popular animated film from Disney and Pixar. The first part was released in 2015. The director of the second part is Kelsey Mann. Its budget is $200 million.
The events of the second part take place a year after the first film. The main character Riley has celebrated her 13th birthday and is preparing for high school. Her emotions of Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust have found a new part of Riley's mind - Self-Awareness.
The emotions also meet Anxiety and her four friends Envy, Moping, Confusion and Nostalgia. The ‘old’ and ‘new’ emotions are staging a real battle for Riley.
As The Gaze reported, previously, Inside Out 2 became the highest-grossing film in Pixar's history.
