Europe and Ukraine should take part in any negotiations to end Russia's war against Ukraine, according to a joint statement issued by the Weimar Triangle Plus countries following a meeting in Paris, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
The foreign ministers of France, the UK, Spain, Italy, Poland, Germany, the EU and Ukraine stressed their support for Ukraine ‘until a just, comprehensive and sustainable peace is achieved’ that guarantees the interests of Ukraine and its European allies.
‘We look forward to discussing the way forward with our American allies. Our common goals should be to ensure a position of strength for Ukraine. Ukraine and Europe should be involved in any negotiations,’ the document says.
The ministers stressed that the common goals should be to ‘ensure a position of strength’ and security guarantees for Ukraine.
‘Ukraine must be provided with strong security guarantees. A just and sustainable peace in Ukraine is a prerequisite for strong Euro-Atlantic security. We recall that the security of the European continent is our shared responsibility. Therefore, we are working together to strengthen our collective defence capabilities,’ the joint statement reads.
The day before, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha arrived in the French capital to participate in an expanded meeting of European foreign ministers and enlisted the support of European allies in strengthening Ukraine.
