Kaja Kallas Insists Ukraine and EU Be Part of Any US-Russia Peace Agreement

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Sunday that any agreement between Washington and Moscow to end the war in Ukraine must include Ukraine and the European Union, The Gaze reports, citing Reuters.
“The U.S. has the power to force Russia to negotiate seriously. Any deal between the U.S. and Russia must have Ukraine and the EU included, for it is a matter of Ukraine’s and the whole of Europe’s security,” stated Kallas, adding that she will convene a meeting of European foreign ministers on Monday to discuss next steps.
Kaya Callas emphasized that in the process of achieving sustainable and just peace, international law clearly states that all temporarily occupied territories belong to Ukraine.
“A deal must not provide a springboard for further Russian aggression against Ukraine, the transatlantic alliance and Europe,” she added.
On August 10, European leaders issued a joint statement welcoming US President Donald Trump's plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. They stressed the importance of putting pressure on Moscow and protecting the security of Ukraine and Europe.
It is worth recalling that Trump is planning a meeting in Alaska on August 15 and has stated that the parties, including President Zelensky, are close to an agreement that could end three and a half years of conflict.
The details of the agreement have not been disclosed, but Trump has indicated that it will involve an exchange of territories, which could mean significant concessions by Ukraine that, according to Zelensky and European allies, will only embolden Russia's aggression.
