Latvia Delivers First Batch of Patria Armored Vehicles to Ukraine

Latvian PM Evika Siliņa visited Ukraine on Tuesday, marking a new phase in Latvia’s defense assistance by personally delivering the first batch of Patria armored personnel carriers (APCs) to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Gaze reports this, referring to a statement made by the Latvian government.
The handover, which coincided with Ukraine’s Statehood Day, included 15 APCs, part of a broader Latvian commitment to supply 42 vehicles by the end of 2025.
The delivery was described by both governments as a tangible demonstration of solidarity amid Russia’s continued aggression.
“Latvia’s support for Ukraine is not just words, but real actions. Ukraine’s security is also our security. The Ukrainians’ fight against the aggressor is our fight as well,” Siliņa said.
The delivery is part of a €70 million military aid package Latvia is providing this year, reflecting its position among the top European donors relative to GDP.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised Latvia’s commitment, noting that the visit sent a powerful message of unity.
“It is very symbolic that this meeting took place on Ukrainian Statehood Day. Thank you for this gesture, a sign of solidarity with our people,” Zelenskyy stated. “We discussed drones, European integration, and the opening of negotiation clusters. Fairness in this process must be ensured. I am grateful to the Latvian people and government for their significant help and this new defense package.”
As co-chair of the “Drone Coalition” within the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, alongside the United Kingdom, Latvia has already facilitated the transfer of 1,500 drones earlier this year and pledged to deliver 12,000 more from domestic producers by mid-year.
Siliņa’s visit included meetings with top Ukrainian officials and participation in events dedicated to Ukraine’s statehood and resilience.
