Lithuania to Fence Off from Russia with Dragon's Teeth and Anti-Tank Hedgehogs
The Lithuanian authorities have decided to install permanent fortifications near the border with Russia's Kaliningrad region.
This was reported by LRT with reference to the Minister of National Defence of Lithuania, Laurynas Kasciūnas.
Kasciūnas said that the Lithuanian Defence Forces have already begun transporting the first counter-mobility equipment - dragon's teeth, anti-tank hedgehogs and roadblocks - to specially equipped sites.
If the majority of these assets are designed to be moved from place to place, permanent fortifications will be created on the border with Kaliningrad Oblast, the minister stressed.
"We have assessed the places that need preliminary fortification, and we will start doing it," the head of the Lithuanian Defence Ministry announced.
The ministry is expected to officially present the decision to permanently reinforce the border with Kaliningrad to the public on 5 September.
Earlier, Kasciūnas said that strengthening the border with Russia over the next decade would cost 600 million euros. At the same time, the European Union will help finance the protection of the Lithuanian-Russian border.
