Lithuanian President Approves New 'Old' Government: Only Two New Ministers
On Monday, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda signed a decree on the renewed composition of the government, which includes only two new ministers.
This was reported by Lithuanian broadcaster LRT.
Aurimas Peckauskas, who had been acting as Vice Minister of Health, was appointed Minister of Health.
Kazys Starkevičius, chairman of the Seimas Committee on Economics, has been appointed Minister of Agriculture.
The other 12 ministers who held their positions before the government resigned will continue their work.
The cabinet is being reappointed as the Constitution requires the prime minister to resign after the inauguration of the president. Nausėda, re-elected in May for a second term, was sworn in in July.
The president appointed Ingrid Šimonite as the new prime minister on 22 July and, according to the law, instructed her to form a cabinet within 15 days, a deadline that expires at the beginning of this week.
On 12 July, the inauguration ceremony of President Gitanas Nausėda, who was re-elected for a second term by Lithuanian citizens, took place in Vilnius.
