Macron, Starmer Urge Russia to Agree to 30-Day Ceasefire

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the war in Ukraine and called on Russia to agree to a 30-day ceasefire.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to the British government's website.
The two leaders discussed the need for Russia to agree to a 30-day ceasefire to ensure meaningful peace talks.
Starmer stressed that Ukraine has already demonstrated its readiness and willingness to sit down at the negotiating table and is a party to peace.
Macron and Starmer also discussed the upcoming summit between the UK and France later this year and agreed to strengthen ambitions between the two countries in all areas, including defence, security and the fight against illegal migration.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a three-day ‘truce’ in the Russian-Ukrainian war, during the Victory Day celebrations in Russia. US Special Representative Keith Kellogg rejected the proposal and said that the United States was interested in a long-term ceasefire.
British intelligence believes that the three-day ‘truce’ announced by Putin to coincide with the 9 May celebrations is intended to show Russia's alleged openness to any agreements and to limit Ukraine's long-range strikes without worsening its positions on the frontline.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump believes that Putin's proposal for a so-called ‘three-day truce’ is ‘too much’ compared to what has happened before.
