Trump’s Envoy to Ukraine Slams Russia’s Ceasefire as “Absurd”

U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine, retired General Keith Kellogg, has dismissed the Russian-proposed three-day ceasefire as “absurd,” calling instead for a full-scale cessation of hostilities for at least a month, The Gaze reports.
Commenting on the Kremlin’s announcement of a May 8–10 ceasefire, Kellogg emphasized that symbolic pauses are not enough to bring stability.
"The three-day ceasefire is absurd. What the president (Trump) wants is a permanent comprehensive ceasefire: sea, air, land, infrastructure for a minimum of 30 days, and then we can extend that."
Kellogg underlined that the war has reached a critical stage, comparing it to the most difficult stretch of a military operation or a marathon:
"We’re close. This is the last 100 yards to an objective in the military, this is the toughest 100 yards. This is like a marathon: it is the last mile that is the hardest."
The special envoy also dismissed Kremlin claims of progress, stating unequivocally:
"Russia is not winning this war. Russia has not made any major advances in the last year."
"So if Russia says they’re winning—no, they are not."
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a temporary ceasefire in honor of the World War II victory anniversary, set to begin at midnight on May 7–8 and lasting until midnight on May 10–11.
Ukraine has responded with skepticism and continues to push for a broader and unconditional halt to hostilities.
As The Gaze previously reported, the European Union has dismissed Russia’s proposal for a three-day ceasefire from May 8 to May 10 as insufficient and symbolic, urging Moscow to end its war against Ukraine without delay.
