Law enforcement and judicial authorities from Romania and the Netherlands have set up a joint investigation team to investigate the theft of Romanian artefacts from the Drenthe Museum in Assen, northern Netherlands, Eurojust reports.
The group was formed with the support of Eurojust, which will provide legal, logistical and operational assistance to investigators.
On the night of Saturday, 25 January, four exhibits of Romanian cultural heritage were stolen from the museum, including a golden helmet of Kotsofenesti. The criminals entered the building by blowing up the door and took the helmet and three ancient gold bracelets, which were provided for the exhibition by the National Museum of Romania.
Three suspects were arrested in the Netherlands and are currently in custody.
At the request of the Romanian authorities, Eurojust organised a coordination meeting in its office in the first week after the crime to discuss further actions and ensure cooperation between investigators involved in the investigation of the theft of cultural property.
As The Gaze previously reported, a group of criminals robbed the Drenthe Museum in Assen, Netherlands. The criminals blew up the front door of the building and stole 4 ancient artefacts.
