President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held phone calls on May 22 with the leaders of Greece, North Macedonia, and Moldova, inviting them to attend the upcoming Ukraine–Southeast Europe Summit, The Gaze reports.

In his conversation with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Zelenskyy emphasized the need to increase pressure on Moscow and sustain military and economic support for Ukraine.

“I spoke about contacts with European partners and President Trump. These days are filled with diplomatic activity. Strong pressure and additional sanctions on Russia are needed.  No one needs an explanation as to why the war is still ongoing—it’s only due to Russia’s refusal to end it,” Zelenskyy wrote on social media.

He thanked Greece for aligning with Ukraine’s position and supporting enhanced sanctions and defense cooperation, including bolstering air defense systems and domestic arms production.

Zelenskyy also confirmed Mitsotakis had accepted the invitation to attend the summit: “Kyriakos confirmed he would come. Thank you.”

During a separate conversation with North Macedonia’s President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, Zelenskyy discussed coordination on the EU accession path and emphasized the importance of regional unity.

“We have a strong cooperation format—Ukraine–Southeast Europe—and we’re working together to make it even more effective. We’re preparing for our next meeting, the leaders’ summit. It’s important for North Macedonia to be represented,” he said.

While Mitsotakis and Siljanovska-Davkova have not publicly commented on the calls, Moldovan President Maia Sandu confirmed her participation in the summit and reiterated Moldova’s unwavering support for Ukraine.

As The Gaze previously reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte held a phone conversation to discuss coordinated steps toward securing a ceasefire with Russia, future sanctions measures, and long-term NATO support for Ukraine.
