Norway is allocating an additional 1.5 billion Norwegian kroner to support Ukraine's energy sector ahead of its fourth winter of war, working with the EU to provide electricity and heat to Ukrainian citizens.

The Gaze reports on it, referring to a press release of the Norwegian government.

The new aid package will be part of the European program “Investment Framework for Ukraine,” aiming to attract public and private investment in the reconstruction of Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

This is the first time Norway has participated directly in this scheme, expanding its cooperation with the EU within the Ukraine Support Instrument.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre emphasized that a stable energy supply is critical for Ukrainian society to function during the winter.

“Ukraine is facing another harsh winter, and electricity supplies are unstable. Together with the EU, we are stepping up our efforts to ensure that Ukrainian households, businesses, and institutions have access to energy,” he said.

Foreign Minister of Norway Espen Barth Eide also stressed that joint support with the EU will help provide Ukrainian households and businesses with the necessary resources.

This assistance is part of the Nansen Program for Ukraine and complements Norway's previous efforts to finance gas purchases.

In total, since 2022, the country has allocated 6.1 billion Norwegian kroner to support Ukraine's energy needs.

‘Norway stands together with Ukraine in the effort to achieve a lasting and just peace. We have made it clear that Norway remains committed to providing long-term political, economic and military support to Ukraine,’ noted Støre after the meeting with the Ukrainian President.

As The Gaze informed earlier, Ukraine and Norway are creating a joint program called Brave-Norway with a budget of €20 million, aimed at supporting innovation in the field of unmanned systems and military technologies.
