OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, Returns to Position After Recent Departure

The Chief Executive Officer of OpenAI, Sam Altman, has resumed the role of CEO a few days after being dismissed by the Board of Directors on November 17. OpenAI made this announcement on its Twitter page.
Additionally, there will be changes to the composition of OpenAI's Board of Directors. It will now include Bret Taylor, former Head of Software Development at Salesforce Inc. (who will also serve as the board's chair), and Larry Summers, former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. Greg Brockman, co-founder and former president of OpenAI, is also set to rejoin the company.
"We are actively working on the details. Thank you for your patience," emphasizes the company's announcement, gaining recognition primarily as the developer of the AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT.
Microsoft's CEO, Satya Nadella, who was rumored to be Altman's next destination after his departure, welcomed the decision of OpenAI's Board of Directors. According to him, Altman and Brockman play a crucial role in ensuring the company's continued prosperity and the advancement of its mission.
The Board of Directors of OpenAI decided to relieve Sam Altman of his position as CEO on November 17 and appointed Miru Murati, the company's Chief Technical Officer, as the interim CEO. Altman's insufficient openness in communication with the board was cited as the reason for his dismissal.
The news of Altman's dismissal faced strong disapproval from OpenAI employees. Later, it was revealed that around 700 OpenAI employees signed a letter to the board of directors threatening to leave the company if Altman was not reinstated.
Subsequently, the Board of Directors of OpenAI decided to reconsider its decision to remove Altman from his position. However, Altman himself declined to return to the company, reportedly setting a condition for his return, which involved a complete overhaul of the board of directors.
It's worth noting that OpenAI plans to secure additional funding from Microsoft to develop universal artificial intelligence. The company is currently focused on two key aspects: creating a "superintelligence" and expanding the computational capabilities necessary for this endeavor.
