Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin Arrives in Ukraine
On Monday morning, the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, arrived in Kyiv. He said that the US would continue to support Ukraine in its war against Russia. Austin wrote about this on Twitter (X).
"I’m here today to deliver an important message – the United States will continue to stand with Ukraine in their fight for freedom against Russia’s aggression, both now and into the future," the Pentagon chief said.
Concerns about the continuation of US military assistance to Ukraine have recently increased as the US Congress continues to debate the issue. At the same time, congressional leaders hope to gather the votes to allocate additional military aid to Ukraine and Israel before Christmas.
The day before, Austin had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov to discuss the latest developments on the battlefield in Ukraine. This was reported by the White House website.
Austin and Umerov also discussed plans for the next meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, which will be held online this week.
As previously reported The Gaze, Ukraine is actively cooperating with the United States on joint weapons production. There are already agreements on specific things. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his evening address on 17 November.
"During my visit to Washington, we agreed with President Biden on very specific things that we can do together. And this will definitely strengthen Americans, Ukrainians and our partners. Joint production always strengthens," he said.
The President also informed that a special conference of Ukrainian and American industry, government officials and other public figures would be held in Washington in December.
"I thank the United States - President Biden, his team, Congress - both parties - for their support. I would also like to make a special mention of American defence companies and partners in Europe - all those who truly defend freedom. At this time, we all need to be as effective as possible so that the time of our children's and grandchildren's lives is not stolen by war," Zelenskyy added.
