Poland Invests Nearly €60 Million in Transport Infrastructure at the Ukrainian Border

Poland is allocating approximately €60 million to develop Polish-Ukrainian infrastructure and support cooperation in border areas, combining road and railway modernization with circular economy initiatives.
The Gaze reports this, referring to the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy of the Republic of Poland.
A total of €52.5 million will be allocated to the renovation of roads and railways in the border region under the Interreg NEXT Poland-Ukraine 2021-2027 program.
“The planned investments in roads and railways in the Polish-Ukrainian border region will improve road safety, reduce travel time for residents, and make freight transport faster and safer,” the Ministry states.
Four road projects will receive €41.85 million for the modernization of provincial roads in the Polish cities of Augustów, Tomaszów Lubelski, Sokołów Podlaski, and Krosno.
A separate project worth €10.72 million involves the repair of railway tracks on line 101 and at the Werchrata station, while the Ukrainian side will modernize the railway station in Lviv.
An additional €5.1 million will be allocated to small projects within the circular economy.
To this end, a Small Projects Fund will soon be launched, managed by the Ternopil Regional Development Agency. It will support projects worth between €20,000 and €90,000 aimed at material reuse and environmental initiatives.
The committee is also discussing the financial perspective for 2028–2034 and the continuation of Polish-Ukrainian cross-border cooperation under a proven scheme.
The Interreg NEXT Poland-Ukraine 2021-2027 program has a total EU budget of over €262 million, of which at least €214.4 million is earmarked for projects.
As The Gaze informed earlier, in Poland, with the support of Norway, the Camp Jomsborg training center for Ukrainian military personnel was opened, capable of simultaneously training up to 1,200 soldiers.
