Poland to Receive $4 Billion in US Loan Guarantees for Military Modernisation
On Thursday, the United States announced a $4 billion loan to Poland to finance the purchase of new weapons, Polskieradio reports.
‘The United States is today providing Poland with an additional $4 billion in Foreign Military Financing (FMF) loan guarantees, bringing the total value of U.S. loans and loan guarantees to Poland over the past two years to just over $11 billion,’ the U.S. Department said in a statement. The state said in a statement.
It called Poland ‘a cornerstone of NATO's eastern flank and a key strategic partner of the United States’.
‘Since 2023, Poland has embarked on an unprecedented military modernisation programme, significantly strengthening its defence capabilities,’ the US State Department said in a statement.
‘These modernisations include major acquisitions of advanced US defence systems such as Apache helicopters, air and surface surveillance radar systems, High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), and Patriot air and missile defence systems,’ the statement said.
‘FMF loans and loan guarantees are an important tool in the US security cooperation offered to our closest and most trusted allies,’ it added. ‘The proceeds from these loans will further accelerate Poland's military modernisation, enhancing a wide range of defence capabilities and strengthening NATO's deterrence and defence along its eastern flank.’
The US State Department also said that the announcement ‘underscores the United States’ unwavering commitment to Poland's security and to further strengthening NATO’.
‘The United States and Poland are working together to ensure a secure and stable future for the region, focusing on collective defence, strategic partnerships, and regional stability,’ the US State Department said.
