Poland's Airspace Secured: British Typhoon Fighters Deployed for Defence
As part of supporting NATO's eastern flank defence, British Typhoon fighters will be deployed to Poland to defend the country's airspace. This was announced by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, during a joint press conference with the head of the Polish government, Donald Tusk, as reported by RMF24.
"We are constructing frigates and a new defence system to protect the airspace over Poland. We will strengthen our cooperation in all formats so that we can work together on the most important aspects of air defence," said Rishi Sunak, commenting on the dispatch of British fighters to Poland.
The British Prime Minister also assured that his country will not forget that it was Polish pilots who saved British lives while fighting in British skies during World War II.
"I want to talk about the incredible strength that characterizes our relationship. We are allies forever," emphasized Rishi Sunak.
In addition to providing fighters to protect Polish skies, the government leaders discussed the situation at the Polish-Belarusian border, frozen Russian assets, energy cooperation, and support for Ukraine. Sunak announced a new package of British assistance for Ukraine, including millions of ammunition, hundreds of pieces of equipment, and long-range Storm Shadow missiles.
"We are major military powers assisting Ukraine. We have been assisting our neighbour Poland for two years. When it comes to our military assistance, I want to do even more to help. That's why today I announced additional assistance of half a billion pounds sterling so that we can further help finance equipment purchases for Ukraine," said the British Prime Minister.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, in turn, stated that there needs to be an end to certain competition between different initiatives regarding Europe's and the United Kingdom's defence.
"From the various initiatives involving both our countries, there must immediately emerge a coordinated security policy that covers the entire continent and Great Britain," said Donald Tusk.
The Gaze previously reported that the United Kingdom government will allocate over 150 million pounds sterling to support Ukraine's energy sector.
