Polish Bishop Resigns Amid Scandal of Church Sex Party with Prostitute and Pills
Pope Francis swiftly accepted the resignation of a Polish bishop, whose diocese was rocked by a scandal involving a gay orgy in a priest's church flat.
According to the Associated Press, 59-year-old Bishop Grzegorz Kaszak offered his resignation on September 29, and Pope Francis accepted it exceptionally quickly. This came shortly after the police initiated an investigation into a member of his diocese.
The Vatican did not provide a clear reason for the resignation, and the Holy See's press office did not offer official explanations about the situation.
In the letter announcing his resignation, Bishop Kaszak also did not specify the exact reason for stepping down from his position as the Bishop of Sosnowiec.
This decision followed an announcement by the Sosnowiec diocese earlier this month, revealing that a criminal case had been opened against one of Kaszak's priests regarding an incident that took place on the night of August 30-31 in his church flat.
Polish media described this incident as an "orgy," with the local newspaper 'Fakt' reporting that it involved a priest, a sex worker, and another individual engaging in sexual activity on the premises in Dabrowa Gornicza.
During the gathering, one of the participants lost consciousness after taking erection pills, prompting a call for emergency medical assistance, as reported by 'Fakt'.
According to reports, the priest initially denied paramedics access to the unconscious individual. However, once they gained entry to the flat, they found a naked man who was allegedly wearing a veil and lying on the floor.
The priest disputed the characterization of the events as an "orgy." The diocese stated that the priest, identified as Fr. Tomasz Z., had committed a "very serious breach of moral norms" and had been involved in a "great scandal."
In another press release issued last month, it was stated that there were "no doubts" about the priest's involvement, and the diocese established its commission to investigate the incident.
The diocese further reported that the priest was relocated outside the parish and stripped of his clerical rank and duties.
