Polish Government to Build Artificial Intelligence Plant in Krakow for $18 Million
The Polish government plans to allocate 69.6 million zlotys (approximately $17.5 million) for a project to build an artificial intelligence plant in Krakow. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Digital Technologies Dariusz Standerski, EuropeanInterest reports.
The announcement was made as part of an amendment to the budget. If the bill is approved, the funds will be transferred to the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow and Cyfronet, a leading institution in the field of operation and development of high-performance computers and a municipal academic computer network.
The new plant will be established on the basis of the Cyfronet AGH Academic Computer Centre.
Minister Standerski stated that the AI plant will receive co-financing from the European Commission, which is involved in the creation, testing and use of artificial intelligence systems.
Although the minister did not provide specific details about the project, he expressed hope that the process would start this year and be completed next year. He emphasised that the ultimate goal of this investment is to allow Poland to join the European AI ecosystem.
The minister also said that ‘artificial intelligence really needs first of all computing power, and secondly, data. When it comes to data, data openness, we are a leader in the world. And computing power is an area where we still need to invest.’
