President of Ukraine Met with Leaders of Four Southeast Asian States on Participation in Global Peace Summit
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Singapore on an official trip, where he held a series of meetings with leaders of Southeast Asian nations and participated in the "Shangri-La Dialogue" forum, the main platform for security topics in the Asia-Pacific region. During his speech at the summit, he called on Asian leaders and countries to join the Global Peace Summit.
“We are convinced that our world wants to be united and capable of acting in full harmony. We have realized that nations equally reject the idea that someone secretly makes decisions and imposes them – what is needed is an open and inclusive dialogue. We affirmed that the principles and goals of the UN Charter and international conventions are entirely relevant. All this formed the basis of our Peace Formula and has grown into the Global Peace Summit – so that every leader and every country can demonstrate their commitment to peace,” stated Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
At the summit, Volodymyr Zelenskyy held the first-ever bilateral talks with the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, José Manuel Ramos-Horta. The Ukrainian leader emphasized the importance of Southeast Asian countries' participation in the Global Peace Summit and thanked the President of Timor-Leste for confirming his participation in the event.
“It is very important for us to start the process of establishing a just peace. Russia does not want to stop the war. Therefore, together with the whole world, we must take steps to bring peace closer,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the meeting.
In a meeting with President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the President of Ukraine thanked Singapore for its clear stance in condemning Russian aggression, supporting sanctions pressure on Russia, and providing humanitarian aid. He also informed the President of Singapore about preparations for the Global Peace Summit, emphasizing the importance of participation by representatives from all continents and countries that respect international law.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also met with the President-elect of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, congratulating him once again on his election victory in March this year.
“We count on Indonesia's support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” noted Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the meeting.
After participating in the "Shangri-La Dialogue" summit, the President of Ukraine visited the Republic of the Philippines, where he held a meeting with the President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the President of the Philippines for supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as for supporting important UN resolutions condemning Russian aggression. Volodymyr Zelenskyy also announced the opening of the Ukrainian Embassy in the Republic of the Philippines this year, which aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
