Rubio Outlines Plan A and Plan B for Ending War in Ukraine

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that the US has a plan A and a plan B on the part of the US to end Russia's war against Ukraine.
He said this in an interview with CBS News.
According to Rubio, the war is complicated, and no one claims that it is easy to end.
‘Plan A is to have a ceasefire so that we can move on to Plan B, the second phase, which is to bring everybody to the table, maybe through shuttle diplomacy, to find a way to end this war permanently in a way that is sustainable, that takes into account everybody's needs, et cetera... Nobody is saying that this second part is going to be easy, but we can't even get to that second part until we get through the first part,’ Rubio said.
He noted that it is difficult to agree on a permanent end to the war while ‘they are shooting at each other’. That is why, Rubio added, US President Donald Trump wants a ceasefire.
‘This is something we are working on, assuming we can do it. It's not going to be easy... We're moving on to the second phase, which is to discuss something longer and more permanent. This will be difficult. It will require a lot of hard work, concessions from both sides, but it has to happen. This war cannot continue. The President has made that clear, and he is doing everything he can to end it,’ the Secretary of State said.
Rubio called Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 13 March ‘promising’.
After the meeting with Putin, Witkoff expressed the opinion that in the coming weeks, the US side would be able to make progress on resolving Russia's war against Ukraine.
As The Gaze reported, US President Donald Trump said that Witkoff had ‘very good and productive discussions’ with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 13 March. In his opinion, there is now a ‘very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally end’.
