Russian Airstrike Damages EU Mission in Kyiv, Sparks Outrage Across Europe

A massive overnight Russian missile and drone assault on the Ukrainian capital left at least twelve people dead, including children, and inflicted damage on the European Union’s diplomatic mission in Kyiv, prompting strong condemnation from Brussels and calls for a tougher international response, The Gaze reports.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha confirmed that the EU Delegation building was among the sites hit in the strike.
He accused Moscow of deliberately targeting diplomats, describing it as a flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention.
“During the night strike, Russia also targeted diplomats – in direct breach of the Vienna convention. The EU mission to Ukraine was damaged. This requires not only the EU’s, but worldwide condemnation. We express solidarity with our EU colleagues and are ready to provide assistance,” Sybiha wrote on X.
He also stressed that Russia’s actions, which also struck civilian infrastructure, stand in direct contradiction to President Vladimir Putin’s recent remarks in Alaska suggesting openness to dialogue.
European Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos denounced the attack, calling it “a brutal reminder that Russia rejects peace and chooses terror.”
She pledged solidarity with EU staff in Kyiv and their families, as well as with the broader Ukrainian population suffering under continued strikes.
The assault on Kyiv was part of a broader wave of attacks across Ukraine. Emergency services reported dozens injured, while residential buildings and offices were set ablaze by falling debris.
Poland announced it had activated “all necessary procedures” to shield its airspace after the strikes, while President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged Ukraine’s partners to respond with new sanctions.
As The Gaze reported earlier, the July 4 overnight assault, which primarily targeted Kyiv, damaged the Polish consulate’s facilities.
