Sikorski: Poland Should Not Rule Out Deploying Troops to Ukraine
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski does not rule out the possibility of sending Polish troops to Ukraine. He stated this in an interview with Gazeta Wyborcza.
"We should not exclude any option. Let Putin try to guess what we will do," said the minister.
He did not specify what potential role Polish troops might play in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
In response to a question about a Reuters report suggesting that Putin is allegedly ready to negotiate a ceasefire in Ukraine, Sikorski replied that he has "limited trust in him."
"If he wants to cease hostilities, he should end the war by withdrawing his troops from Ukraine. He can do this with a single phone call. I can even imagine what he would say on the call: 'General Gerasimov, as of tomorrow, please cease the special military operation.' The tragedy is that Ukraine cannot force him to do this," said the Polish minister.
Previously, French President Emmanuel Macron repeatedly stated that he does not rule out sending French troops to Ukraine.
"If there were a request from Ukraine, which there isn't today, we would rightly need to ask ourselves this question. Therefore, I believe that excluding this possibility a priori means not learning the lessons of the past two years," said Macron.
Regarding France's capabilities, Macron noted that several thousand French troops were recently sent to the Sahel to combat terrorism, and this was done "at the request of sovereign states." In his opinion, no scenario should be excluded, because "we are up against someone who rules nothing out."
