South Korea Sends Delegation to Ukraine for Cooperation and Sharing Information on DPRK Troop Deployment in Russia
A South Korean government delegation will visit Ukraine this week to share information about the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia and discuss cooperation between Seoul and Kyiv.
This was stated by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol during a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Ukrinform reports.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol condemned the illegal military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow and said that the deployment of DPRK troops in Russia poses a threat to the security of both South Korea and the world.
He said this at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers in Seoul on Tuesday.
‘This illegal military cooperation between Russia and North Korea is a significant security threat to the international community and could pose a serious risk to our national security,’ Yoon Suk Yeol said.
He noted that the Russian-Ukrainian war has been going on for three years now, and North Korea has not only deployed troops in Russia but also continues to transfer weapons to the aggressor country.
‘We must carefully assess all possibilities and prepare countermeasures. I urge everyone to participate in risk management with heightened vigilance,’ the South Korean president added, addressing the ministers.
According to him, Seoul will take step-by-step response measures depending on the development of Russian-North Korean military cooperation.
The United States is currently holding consultations with other countries on a joint response to the actions of Russia and North Korea in the context of the DPRK's deployment of troops to Russian territory and their possible involvement in the war against Ukraine.
The day before, during a joint press conference with participants in the fourth Ukraine-Northern Europe Summit in Reykjavik, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that 3,000 North Korean troops were already fighting on Russia's side, and their number would soon rise to 12,000.
