The US Permanent Representative to NATO announced a decisive stage in the negotiations, noting that the parties are closer to an agreement than ever before. Despite the difficult winter and attacks on the energy sector, the Trump administration plans to increase pressure on Kyiv and Moscow to stop the fighting in the coming months.
Peace in Ukraine could be achieved within the next three months, as most of the contentious issues between the parties have already been resolved. US Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker stressed that the diplomatic process is in its final stages, although certain details still need to be agreed upon to reach a consensus. The senior official spoke about this in an exclusive interview with Fox News.
Critical winter and mutual strikes. Whitaker pointed out that this winter has been extremely harsh for the Ukrainian people due to massive Russian attacks on the energy system. At the same time, he noted that Ukraine is not remaining indebted, delivering painful strikes in response against Russian infrastructure and the oil and gas industry. According to the American diplomat, this cycle of destruction does not bring any strategic advantages to either side and must therefore be stopped immediately.
The role of the US in the settlement.
According to the permanent representative, the key factor in accelerating peace is the personal initiative of the US president. Whitaker emphasized the following aspects of Washington's policy:
Ending the killings: Trump considers the continuation of the war, which has been going on for almost four years, pointless.
Pressure on both sides: The White House intends to use all levers of influence on both Ukraine and Russia to force them to find a compromise.
90-day deadline: If agreements are reached, it will happen within this short period of time.
“If anyone can do it, it's President Trump,” Whitaker concluded, adding that the world needs stability and that destruction must remain in the past.
