Spain to Provide Ukraine with New Military and Humanitarian Aid Package
The Head of the Ministry of Defence of Spain, Margarita Robles, has announced a new package of military and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine. She made this announcement during the 15th meeting of the Contact Group on Defence of Ukraine in the "Ramstein" format in Germany, as reported on the website of the Spanish Ministry of Defence.
Margarita Robles welcomed Ukraine's Minister of Defence, Rustem Umerov, to his first participation in this forum, reaffirmed Spain's support for Ukraine, and unveiled plans for new deliveries of military and humanitarian aid. Specifically, armoured vehicles, launchers, and missiles for air and anti-ship defence, special trucks for operating these systems, as well as rapid medical response vehicles will be provided for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
For the continued operation of the "Role 2+" mobile hospital, which Spain handed over to Ukraine in August, the Minister announced the dispatch of a significant number of pallets containing surgical and medical equipment.
This year, Spain will double the number of Ukrainian military personnel undergoing training compared to its initial commitments. Approximately 4,000 military personnel are expected to receive training, which is twice the originally announced number.
Ms. Robles also noted "good progress" in the preparation of Ukrainian personnel on Spanish territory as part of the EUMAM mission in Ukraine, coordinated by the Training Coordination Center in Toledo.
In response to Ukraine's new needs, a course in military parachute sports in an aerodynamic tube will be offered, along with various specialized courses for Ukrainian security forces.
Within the meeting, Margarita Robles participated in the first meeting of the coalition in support of Ukraine in information and communication technologies, during which she announced Spain's commitments to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence in the field of cybersecurity, offering materials and training.
The head of the defence department emphasized the importance of unity, coordination, and determination within the Contact Group in the "Ramstein" format as a key element of effectively supporting Ukraine in its defence and legitimate struggle against the Russian aggressor.
The 15th meeting of the Contact Group on Defence of Ukraine took place on September 19th at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany. This marks the first meeting in the "Ramstein" format attended by the newly appointed Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov.
