Stoltenberg: Each NATO Ally Determines Conditions for Ukraine's Use of Supplied Weapons
Each NATO member state must decide for itself whether to allow Ukraine to use its weapons against targets in the Russian Federation.
This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with British radio LBC.
‘These decisions will be made individually by allied states, but it is important to discuss these issues in detail, which is what we are doing,’ Stoltenberg said when asked about NATO's permission for Ukraine to strike with Western weapons on Russian territory.
He stressed that granting such permission to Ukraine has its risks, but they can be justified. ‘There is a full-scale war in Europe started by Moscow. In times of war, there are no options that are completely free of risk. However, I am convinced that the biggest risk for us is President Putin's victory in Ukraine,’ the NATO Secretary General said.
Stoltenberg also welcomed the discussions between the United States and the United Kingdom on this issue.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine needs permission from four countries to use long-range weapons against military targets in Russia: The United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany.
