Ukraine Secures €1.2 Billion in Defense Agreements with Germany
Ukraine strengthens defense cooperation with Germany through major agreements worth over €1.2 billion.
The Gaze reports on it, referring to a post made by the Defense Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal on Telegram.
According to Shmyhal, the agreements include long-term delivery of spare parts for Patriot systems, enabling faster repair, modernization, and restoration of existing units. Ukraine will also purchase €200 million worth of domestic drones, prioritizing their deployment to halt enemy advances and increase opposing losses.
A major artillery project is set to produce 200 Bogdan self-propelled howitzers on the new Zetros chassis, valued at €750 million, enhancing Ukraine’s artillery capabilities.
In addition, Ukrainian drones “Linza” will be co-produced with German company Quantum Systems under the Build with Ukraine initiative, scaling tactical reconnaissance capabilities. Contracts were also signed to ensure uninterrupted delivery of advanced electronic warfare systems at the tactical level.
The minister expressed gratitude to Germany for this critical support, noting its significance for Ukraine’s defense and regional stability.
"We particularly appreciate the delivery of the two promised Patriot systems and the 9th IRIS-T. This will help protect Ukrainian cities and strengthen European security," he said.
A newly delivered German IRIS-T SLM air-defense battery has already demonstrated its effectiveness in Ukraine, successfully intercepting nine Russian missiles and drones, including Kh-101 and Iskander-K missiles as well as Shahed drones.
Assigned to the 223rd Air Defense Missile Regiment, the system has been integrated with IRIS-T SLS short-range launchers, enhancing Ukraine’s ability to target low-flying threats such as reconnaissance drones and loitering munitions. This marked one of the most successful early combat performances for a newly deployed Western air-defense platform in Ukraine.
Earlier, Germany announced an increase of its defense assistance to Ukraine next year, bringing total military support to over €11.5 billion. The expanded funding is to be directed toward artillery systems, drones, armored vehicles, and the replacement of two Patriot air-defense systems already transferred to Ukraine.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Ukraine has received new long-term defense commitments from 15 partner countries following the 32nd meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format, securing new record of support.
