Summit on Artificial Intelligence with Participation of G7 Leaders to Take Place in the United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is set to host a summit dedicated to artificial intelligence at the end of the current year. The initiative for this event comes from the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak. According to Bloomberg, the summit will feature prominent global leaders and top executives of companies specializing in artificial intelligence.
It is expected that heads of G7 countries will be invited to participate, as well as notable figures in the field of artificial intelligence, including Sam Altman, the head of OpenAI, Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, Demis Hassabis, the head of DeepMind, and others.
One of the possible venues for the summit could be Bletchley Park, a country estate located between the research centers of Oxford and Cambridge. It was at this location that the Government Code and Cipher School of the United Kingdom was situated, known for its role in decoding German "Enigma" ciphers during World War II, particularly due to the contributions of renowned mathematician Alan Turing.
The UK government plans to officially announce details about the conference, including the exact date, venue, and attendees, in the coming weeks. There are ongoing debates about whether to invite China to the summit, as a group of lawmakers has raised concerns that Beijing employs spies and investments to monitor telecommunications, artificial intelligence, and engineering activities in the UK.
The summit itself could serve as a platform for discussing the future development of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence technology. This technology holds significant potential, ranging from improving medical diagnostics and reducing emissions from transportation to potential negative consequences such as election manipulation and the spread of misinformation.
Previously, Sunak had stated that limitations need to be established for AI, but the exact form of these limitations is yet to be determined. The UK is considering possibilities such as setting a threshold for computing power, beyond which all AI technologies will be regulated, as well as using watermarking to identify materials created by AI.
"The UK is demonstrating its ability to play a leading role among China, the United States, and Europe. This is not only about taming AI, but also about making the UK a talent hub for artificial intelligence and its implementation," believes Brent Hoberman, co-founder of the travel website lastminute.com and a forum for business founders focused on technical events.
According to Bloomberg Intelligence estimates, the $40 billion generative AI market could grow 30-fold over the next 10 years.
