The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, together with the Commission, has proposed the 12th package of sanctions against Russia.

This information is available on the official website of the European Union.

"The sanctions packages are part of EU’s strategy to respond to Russia’s illegal war against Ukraine, together with measures designed to support Ukraine politically, economically and militarily. The EU’s policy remains to increase pressure on Russia to stop its repeated violations of the UN Charter and international law and to make these violations more costly for the Russian war machine," the statement emphasizes.

Thus, the statement says that Borrell proposes to impose sanctions on over 120 individuals and legal entities "for their role in undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine."

In addition, the Commission, along with the High Representative, proposes to introduce new import and export bans, as well as measures aimed at strengthening the upper limit of oil prices and countering the circumvention of EU sanctions.

It is worth noting that the proposals for inclusion in the lists include entities from the military, defense, and IT sectors, as well as other important economic operators.

At the same time, the proposed measures will also target those individuals involved in organizing recent fictitious "elections" in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine by Russia, Russian citizens responsible for the forced "re-education" of Ukrainian children, and individuals spreading disinformation and propaganda in support of the genocidal, unprovoked Russian war in Ukraine.

It is worth mentioning that last month, The Gaze reported that information had surfaced in the media about discussions by EU officials regarding a new 12th sanctions package against Russia.

At that time, it was mentioned that the new package would focus on imposing new restrictions on Russian diamonds to significantly weaken Russia's ability to wage a bloody war in Ukraine.

It was expected that the package would be presented jointly with the G7 countries, which account for the majority of the diamond business.
