The EU Will Not Buy Gas and Oil from Russia
Even after peace is restored.
The Gaze reports on it according to Ukrinform.
European Union member states will no longer purchase Russian gas and oil, even if a peace agreement is reached between Russia and Ukraine.
This was announced by European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jørgensen.
“Even when peace comes, we will no longer buy Russian gas. Our agreement will remain in force even after a peace agreement is reached between Russia and Ukraine,” Jorgensen said.
According to him, the European Union must never repeat the mistake of becoming dependent on Russian gas.
The European Commissioner also expressed regret over Hungary's reaction to the ban on Russian gas imports. Budapest says it will challenge the European Commission's proposal in court.
“I don't really understand these countries (Hungary, Slovakia). I think we should stand together against Putin to help our friends in Ukraine,” he said, noting that the European Commission is ready to help all member states that are at risk of energy supply disruptions.
“The implementation (of the refusal to purchase gas from Russia – ed.) will take place gradually and can be carried out in such a way as to avoid negative consequences,” Jorgensen said.
The EU Council Presidency and representatives of the European Parliament recently reached a preliminary agreement on regulations for the gradual phasing out of Russian natural gas imports by 2027.
